Board of directors
The board constitutes DIIS’s overall management and defines the overall academic goals and strategies for the institute. It decides in all important questions of financials, organisation and operation, and supervises DIIS’s goal achievement, operation and management.

The board consists of nine members and two observers. Board members are appointed for four-year terms and may be reappointed once.

Management
DIIS is headed by a director appointed by the board. The director is responsible for the daily management of the institute, within the framework that the board has set.
Payment of the director and the board
The director position at DIIS is filled as a 5-year term based on a public job posting with the possibility of extension for up to three years. The position is classified in pay group 2 according to the framework agreement on contract employment of managers in the state, and the employment follows the Danish Ministry of Finance's circular on fixed-term employment in the state.

DIIS' board members received the following monthly remuneration in 2022:
- Ordinary member: 2,925 kr. per month
- Chairperson: 10,892 kr. per month
- Employee-elected board member and two observers: 0 kr.
The chairperson of the board receives a higher remuneration due to the significant extra workload and responsibility.
