A Lesson for Nord Stream from the Arctic

Op-ed by Pertti Joenniemi and Fabrizio Tassinari in European Voice

In this week's European Voice, Pertti Joenniemi, Senior Researcher, and Fabrizio Tassinari, Senior Researcher and Head of Foreign Policy and EU Studies Unit argue that international developments in the Arctic have something to suggest for the increasingly strained relations in the Baltic.

The authors claim that the experience of pre-emption that, in August 2008, led five Arctic countries to issue the Ilulissat Declaration could be replicated among the nine Baltic Sea countries in order to tone down the political heat surrounding the construction of the Nord Stream pipeline.
